These days I work for an internet company in Mountain View, California called Google. There, I currently lead a team in the search quality group working on understanding structured and natural language search queries, questions and commands.
Before working on search quality I worked on various research efforts in Google Translate and led its data mining team. This group is responsible for automatically mining what is likely the world's largest parallel corpus from the web and other sources.
My research interests revolve around weakly supervised large-scale language processing systems in the broadest sense. In building those systems I have worked in areas ranging from natural language understanding, semantic parsing, machine translation, applied machine learning all the way to large-scale crowd-sourcing.
As counterpoints to technology and science I like to play the piano, in particular romantic era stuff, and fly my paraglider.
A few other Uszkoreits can be found on the web as well: my father Hans-Jürgen Uszkoreit, my sister Lena Uszkoreit and my late grandfather Hans-Georg Uszkoreit.

I was taught how to fly paragliders by Wally Anderson, an amazing instructor and pilot. I have since flown around the world and in the early days made a few videos.
This flight in the mountains just north of Santa Barbara turned a breathtaking and otherworldly beautiful dance with the clouds.
On a recent trip through Europe I had my first flights in the Swiss Alps. Below is a compilation of my first three flights off Mt. Rigi, Switzerland.
A beautiful flying site closer to my current home is Mussel Rock, also known as The Dumps, in northern Pacifica, California. It's a coastal soaring site and on a good day one can launch close to the beach and stay aloft for hours.
A smaller San Francisco Bay Area flying site is up in the rolling hills around Benicia.
A video of one of my first higher altitude flights from a 3200ft launch site to the beautiful pacific coast in Big Sur, California. One of the most scenic places to fly, and in general.
